CIM & CAM Tutor
Tom teaches on the CIM Professional and the CAM Digital Marketing diploma courses. Through his teaching and consultancy he seeks to bring to others the benefits of his marketing experience in both the commercial and voluntary sectors. Previously, he was Chair of War Child UK and Chief Executive Officer of Computer Aid International, an international development charity dedicated to delivering information and communications technologies for development, and Marketing Director of Action for Children. He is a qualified marketer who has published articles on marketing and product development, and presented at seminars on marketing, project management, fundraising, and the voluntary sector. Tom is originally Canadian, and has been in the UK for over 35 years. He worked in a number of roles before finally settling in the commercial sector. His last position there was Vice President/Global Head of Product Development and Marketing for Bank of Bermuda.
When Bank of Bermuda was bought by HSBC in 2004, Tom went to Delhi to work on a project performing marketing for a street children’s bank. He then returned to the UK in late 2004 to take up his first voluntary sector position in April 2005. A year later, he joined Action for Children (formerly NCH) as their Head of Marketing and New Business.
On the personal side, he loves music, mainly jazz, but also enjoys classical and opera, and plays the piano. His other interests include travel (especially South Asia), theatre and writing, and exploring his family history – his grandfather was a Barnardo’s boy sent to Canada at the turn of the last century.
